Orange Is the New Black is an American comedy-drama series created by Jenji Kohan, which premiered on July 11, 2013, on Netflix. The series, based on Piper Kerman's memoir Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison (2010), follows Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), a happily engaged New Yorker who is sent to a women's federal prison for transporting a suitcase full of drug money across international borders, 10 years prior, for her girlfriend at the time, Alex Vause (Laura Prepon).
As of June 9, 2017, 65 episodes of Orange Is the New Black have been released, concluding the fifth season. Ten of the thirteen episodes of the fifth season were leaked online by hackers prior to its scheduled premiere date.
The series has been renewed for its sixth and seventh seasons.
